Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
BJJ is a martial art and self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Students will learn skills and strategies designed to help develop proficiency and heightened awareness. BJJ was developed for the smaller, weaker opponent so that they can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to drive their opponent into a submission or evidently forfeit. Sparring (rolling) and live drilling play a major role in training. This helps to shape the students performance, especially in competition. Thus in turn, rolls into the recognition of their progress through the ranking system.
